How to translate the portal to your end-user's language

When you deal with an international audience, you need to provide a customized onboarding experience in your end-users language. Clustdoc allows you to do this very easily.

Differentiating a translation from an adaptation

A translation is a rendering from one language to another, while an adaptation makes a text culturally appropriate, accurate, and therefore understandable.

Here is a dummy example showing you the difference between translation and adaptation.

In our English process, one of the steps is 'Filling out a W2 form'.

If we wanted a translation of our process (let's say for people speaking french in the US) we would simply translate our process to French and say the exact same thing then.

However, if we wanted to create a version of our process for France, we'd need adaptation since the W2 form doesn't exist in France.

Source language : text is in US english for the US

Adaptation : text is in US english for France

Translation : text is in french for the US

Before translating your process, make sure you confirm the requirements, so you can take the best decision between translating or adapting.

Translating a process using browsers

If you want a literal translation of your current process, chances are that your visitors browsers will display a translated version of the page based on their browser language. If this option works for you, you can rely on that to offer a translated version of your process.

Translating or adapting a process using Clustdoc

Step 1 : Add a language

  • Go to your process, then to the Configuration > Languages section.

  • In the multi languages configuration area, choose a language from the dropdown list.

Once a new language is added, you can :

  1. Activate or deactivate the language (to show or hide it from the end-user interface)

  2. Configure the language

  3. Delete the language

  • Click on the settings icon next to the language to access the translation page.

Step 2 : Launch the automatic translation

  • Once on the translation page, click the “Extract and Translate” button.

Clustdoc will extract all the text elements from your process (titles, instructions, emails, etc.).

⚠️ Important: To enable automatic translation, you must connect your account to Google Translate or DeepL.

Step 3 : Review or edit the translated fields

Once the fields are translated automatically, you can click on any field to edit the translation manually if needed.

💡Tip : Use the search bar to easily find a specific field.

On the end-user side

Once your translations are enabled, your clients will be able to choose from the active languages the one they prefer to view and complete the process.

Default language

The language you pick will be applied to email notifications and all client interface static elements.
